I think there is a small plaque at the base of the statue that mentions it, or I read it when searching for info on the cathedral. There are about 300 bodies in there from the cholera epidemic in the 1600′s.

The site was launched way back in February 2006 and, apart from a few 'sick' days here and there it has provided a daily snapshot of life in the great city of Newcastle upon Tyne
