Chinese New year
The Chinese celebrated the coming of the year of the rat (and prices of hamsters have tripled as the pet of choice in China) last week. Newcastle celebrated this past Sunday in Chinatown.
The dragon was out and accepting gifts at the doors of the many restaurants and shops escorted by bobbies and and traditional music of cymbals and drums.

Hi Cass, great photo, did you have a good time there?
Chinese New Year is always a popular occasion in the city, although I couldn’t make this years.
I love your flikr photo of the dragon head crop, that’s stunning!
Cheers
Mike
Thanks Mike. Yeah the celebration was interesting. I was feeling a little under the weather and very cross at someone who went with me, but it was fun nonetheless. I’ll be in town on Thursday to try and get that shot of the wedge building.
