This little bit of the city centre is under construction. I wonder what they’ll have done to it!

  1. Hi Cassandra, it’s going to be a new teaching and accomodation building for overseas students coming to the UK for the first time. Shame we lost the trees, but it and the section on Barrass Bridge, a bit further along will look a lot nicer in about 18 months time. One of the buildings on St Thomas Street will be demolished as part of the same redevelopment. – It’s the awful grey one about halfway up

  2. Oh, that really is a shame to be losing the trees. Even so close to the road, that was a nice spot to sit and think… And bummer about it becoming a building for international students! I could have used that!

  3. Well, I agree with all that. Out Head gardener planted those trees about 25 years ago, so he wasn’t happy either. You may know the cobbled lane that runs behind the building you face in this photo. Well the old Brewery stables and , as i said the horrid grey painted building in St Thomas Street are all coming down soon. They will be replaced by modern buildings, but, and here’s the point, they will surround a new, planted courtyard, which will be in that new area (immediately behid the Hotspur pub in fact). That should be lovely. And right behind the ugly 60′s tower block where i work! So I should have somewhere nice to sit for lunch!
