Bigg Market toilets

Bigg Market toilets, Newcastle, UK

See the circular roof thing?  That’s the roof of the public toilets.  Took me ages to find out they really were.  Have never been brave enough to investigate what they are like.

The Castle Keep can be seen just above the roof, in the gap between the buildings.
This is standing a little further down than yesterday, turned a little to the right.

  1. and they’re gents. No ladies’ nearby.

  2. There used to be a wonderful view of both the Cathedral and the Castle Keep, till some idiot in the Newcastle Planing Dept allowed that horrible building to be placed there and destroyed a welcome open space, which had seat in it. Planners can sometimes get it horribly wrong. I hope that when they took the over monstrosity down (the one jutting out from the old Chronicle offices) they might, just night have decided to get rid of this one too.

  3. Rachel, I think I had known that before but had forgotten. Annoying.

Mrs K, planners can be fantastic, but when they put up pointless ugly buildings like that you just can’t help but wonder what they’re on.

  4. Hey, I’m not sure if they are still there, but if you go down the little street next to the beehive, the womens woilets used to be down there.

  5. Believe me, you wouldn’t of wanted to go down the toilets. Horrible place. Very old fashioned and was always frequented by dodgy men.

  6. questions
    when were this toilets instaled?
    and
    when were those offices built?
