Old Eldon Square

Old Eldon Square, Newcastle, UK

The left of this photo is where the George and Dragon pub used to be, on the other side of the old bus station that went under Eldon Gardens.  Now it’s an extension to Eldon Square that has a Starbucks (…yes another one), an Argos (… yes, another one), a Nando’s (… yes, another one), and a Waitrose.

Now that last bit was a surprise.

The square has been recently revamped and is looking quite good really.

And behind where I took the photo from is a Wagamama.  There’s also a Strada, but I prefer Wagamama’s yasai katsu curry to nearly anything else in the world.

  1. Thank you for another great picture, Beth. I really must try Wagamama one of theses days.

  2. Oh Pierre do try Wagamama – although I would recommend going to wagamama.com first to see if you can get a voucher to make it cheaper :) Glad you like the pic!

  3. Wish you could have seen how beautiful Eldon Square used to look in the 50s and 60s….such elegant buildings and a lovely quiet place to take a break at lunchtime.
