Whistler Tea Room

whistler tea room, newcastle, uk

I’ve been at Haymarket hundreds and hundreds of times over the years.  I’ve walked past and I’ve waited for people there.  And I’ve never before looked up and noticed Whistler Tea Room over the Leeds Building Society before Thursday last week.

I should look up more often.  Newcastle’s a very rewarding city to look up in.

  1. I never look up either! In fact I never look where I’m going… “What bus?” will be my last words!

I think you can get to those tea rooms from Vine Lane, up the stairs…
There used to be a Gents barbers called Top Style in that building on the first floor, think it may be ladies now…

  2. When you can, climb up the ‘Big Salt Cellar (Gray’s Monument). Just look as the rooves, especially the copper dome. Its wonderful and worth the ‘out of breath’ even when young.

I had been missing – bad patch – but caught up with all the pictures I had missed – I spent a wonderful hour – taken out of the present and back to happy memories (well not all happy) but the bad ones are just as good.

  3. Mike, I’ll have to investigate sometime. I do love that about Newcastle, all the nooks and craneys I’ve never found.

Mrs K, I would love to climb Monument. I hope it opens again sometime soon. I’m glad to see you’re back and that you enjoyed catching up on the photos. If there’s anything you want to see pictures on just let me know.

  4. Beth,

I’m 43 and have lived in Newcastle all my life, but I haven’t noticed that!

Thanks; I’ll look up more too!

  5. Is it really possible to climb the monument? Wow! I have to come to NC soon then! As you know, it’s my favourite spot. What about meeting sometime in the future in the Italian place Mike was suggesting some posts ago??? Merry Xmas, Beth and to all Geordies! Ciao. A.

  6. Before you come to ‘climb’ check with the Civic Centre as it is not open everyday now – not like in the ‘old days’.

  7. ah I’d love to do that… I didn’t know you could at all… if anyone finds anything out post it here!

    Happy Christmas,

    Dave

  8. OK! I have found this and am going to email to find out when the next possible date is. I will also ask if there would be a possibility of arranging a Newcastle Daily Photo visit if there were enough people to make it worthwhile. I will report back!

  9. PS – Antonella – I like the sound of meeting up at Panis too!

  10. I’ve been there and had tea to celebrate my PhD! It was crowded but nice. I can say I’ve been to a real tea house in England.

  11.
