cloughs

Cloughs, an old-fashioned sweet shop on Heaton Road. It’s been a sweet shop since 1934, and the owner has written a book with his brother detailing the history of the shop. They are also out to preserve the Geordie history of song and dance – click here for more.

There’s even a facebook group for fans of Cloughs.

  1. Gosh, this brings back loads of memories.
When I was a kid there was another Clough’s on Chillingham Road between Warton Terrace and Simonside Terrace. Sadly, last time I drive down that way it was a tattoo place.

  2. Interesting looking shop. Amazing that it’s been there that long. Heck, that’s older than I am! Nice photo!

  3. If you can find the website of photos by Steve Ellwood there are some great shots of the interior. I think he may be a friend of Mr. Clough

  4. Makes me think of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Ta muchly!!
