Snowy alley
This is a snowy alley in Walker. Taken two days before Christmas.
It snowed again on New Year’s Eve. We woke up to a very snowy scene on New Year’s Day.

It is amazing how a bit of snow can make even a back lane look nice. It looks like you will have plenty of opportunity for snowy pictures over the next few days.
Nice to see someone call it a back lane and not an alley! Sorry to be so pedantic!
I like to read the Chron and Journal on line and think it’s just wonderful to read a paper that prints in the vernacular, you know,”mam” and not “mother” or even “mum”. There is such a richness in the Geordie tongue.
Back lane – you’re totally right Edith! As a pedant myself, I’m glad to be corrected
And you might be interested to read this article from the Times about the spread of regional accents.
Yes Alf, I was surprised myself. I’ve taken a few pics and will hopefully get a few more before it all melts.
Thanks for the article link-very interesting read. I find it facinating how the Geordie accent can vary greatly in strength within one’s own a family….never mind a region
Seeing this pic made me so homesick, I suppose because it brought up so many wonderful memories playing in the back lanes as a kid.
