Quayside, Bridges and Sage in the snow
This was taken in the month-long snow – I know I said no more, but it’s snowed a few times since then. I like this pic as you don’t see as many taken looking west down the river instead of east.
You all have gone a bit quiet! What’s going on? Any requests for pics?
Oh and I was up round the RVI a few days back and noticed a lot of demolition work going on. Pics will go onto flickr soon.

I’m here…I check in almost daily. I really like this photgraph looking the other direction with the many other bridges lining their way across the river on such a stormy looking day. Have you ever taken the Tyne river tour? So informative and a very relaxing way to soak up history and architecture….well, maybe not in winter
This picture reminds me of the day I finished high school for good years ago. A group of us threw our hats off a bridge into the Tyne as a farwell gesture…not such a good idea now for so many reasons.
I’m still here too. I never tire of looking at the Tyne bridges.
I’m curious to know the hat-wearing school that Ash went too. My old school maintained a pretty high level of strictness, but caps were not part of the uniform even back in ’71 when I started. (Thankfully short pants had gone by then too!). Otherwise I think I might have enjoyed chucking it in the Tyne too.
Private school in Jesmond….very , very high strict standard even back then (very early eighties) when I ended H.S. My parents would have had a fit especially my father if they had found out. There was a lot they didn’t know-tossing that unattractive uniform hat over the edge felt very good-I’m not going to lie.
I like the perspective in this beauty.
I like the unusual view especially with all the other bridges behind it. By a strange coincidence yesterday I was looking on the SkyscraperCity site I mentioned a while ago and found this even more unusual view.

It seems very appropriate as Valentine’s Day approaches.
Excellent Alf. Love it.
What an amazing shot!
Do you reckon it was taken from the Baltic? Is it high enough for that shot?
I’ve never done the Tyne River tour Ash but have been planning to for years. Always thought it sounded great.
Beth, I have looked out from the top floor of the Baltic and I don’t think it is high enough to give that angle. I think this must have been taken from a plane or helicopter.
On the subject of school caps I went to a grammar school in the 50s and it was a punishable offence to be seen in uniform without the cap. To make it worse, in those days many of the teachers used to travel on the same bus as us so we couldn’t get away with waiting until we got to the school gates to put it on. It was a blessed relief when we got to the fifth form and were excused uniform including the silly cap especially as there was a girls school next door. Can you imagine being 15 years old and trying to impress the girls whilst wearing a stupid cap.
Alf, Chopper I reckon.
Beth et all
Look here you all keep talking about taking ‘The Trip’ suggest we pick a day and time. All go to the boat and try and spot each other. But wait till weather is warm enough and the days are long. Oh and choose the boat otherwise we could all be on different boats.
I drop in when I really need to clear my head from the work – when I am up and running – but a ten ton truck (called a cold) whacked me and thank goodness for Friar’s Balsam. I love it when the green twiddly bits appear and then someone comes along and say ‘ what’?
Welcome back, Mrs. K, it’s always good to hear from you. You cannot whack the old remedies like Friar’s Balsam. Ask for it in the chemist these days though and they look at as though you are daft. Have you got a secret supply?
Called ‘Alliance Chemists’ but they have just been taken over by Boots. So watch this space if Boots drop it at my local chemist. Fireworks.
I’m here too! Great shots; also love that one Alf links to…
Right, OK; give me a little while and I’ll suggest a date for the boat trip……
