I wonder if they are the famous Swan Hunter cranes. I certainly can’t think of any others big enough to be seen from the Coast Road. Sadly, if I am right they would be missing from a photograph taken from the same spot today. They were dismantled and shipped to India last year. At least they will still have a useful life instead of being sold for scrap.
The site was launched way back in February 2006 and, apart from a few 'sick' days here and there it has provided a daily snapshot of life in the great city of Newcastle upon Tyne

Goodness gracious, India?! Those things were HUGE! Postage must have been out of this world!
