Bewick Court

Bewick Court is, I think, the only residential tower block that’s in the centre of Newcastle. It was cleaned up a year or so back… it’s still not the most picturesque place from the outside, but it’s much better than it was. Still, I quite like this shot.

Anton Hecht, a filmmaker and artist, has made a musical based on the stories of Bewick Court’s inhabitants. See here or here for more info or to watch – and please do. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and happy and sad, all at once. I just wish it featured some of the women who live there. Why just men?

  1. It always freaked me out that such a large structure was built on a “bridge.” It seems terribly unsafe to me but I suppose the engineers know what they’re doing!

  2. A nice pic of an awful building. Poulson and T. Dan Smith deserved to go to prison just for allowing that to be built. It is good to see that the “inmates” have a sense of humour if little musical ability.

  3. I know Cassandra, it freaks me out too! I try not to think about it :)

    Thanks Alf :)

  4. Nice one… wonder what it’s like inside? Bet the views are good. I’ll definitely be checking out those links – so thanks Beth.

  5. I’m sure it’s nicer inside than out Dave :s Did you watch? What did you think?
