Newcastle Academy
This is the O2 Academy these days. It was previously the Carling Academy, but before that it was a bingo hall, and, I believe, a dance hall… Mrs K? Alf?

Yes indeed, you are all correct. Originally it was the New Westgate Cinema but I think later the name was changed when it was taken over by Gaumont. Then it was the Majestic Ballroom followed by a bingo hall and finally the Academy. I see there are some of those fancy railings in the picture too which I think have been mentioned before.
Alf Stone is absolutley spot on I too remember the New Wesgate cinema , then the Gaumont picture house, followed by The Majestic Dance Hall then a Bingo hall.
