I’ve never been to the Journal Tyne Theatre but I’ve often thought I should, just so I can say I’ve been.

  1. You should go Beth, we had our first visit this year to see the Take That inspired musical – it was great, really old fashioned and felt really intimate because the seats are all quite close to the stage.

  2. I haven’t been in it since it was done up but I am told it is well worth a visit. In fact I was only in it once when it was still the Stoll cinema. In those days it mostly featured “adult” films and there was strict age limit but I remember they showed a Tommy Steel film and I went to see it. I was a great fan but nobody else was so I had to go alone. I was terrified that somebody would see me going in to the Stoll and report back to my parents. I was only about 12 at the time.

  3. We once plucked up the courage to pay the Stoll a visit. Waste of money, we came out after 10 minutes. You live and learn!!!!

  4. Is this building on the West Road heading into town?

  5. This is my favourite Newcastle Theatre

Section 12 of the SkyscraperCity WEBSITES listing thread, lists the five major theatres in Newcastle (see below) and (despite stiff competition) The “TYne Theatre” is my favourite . . .
