Vampire Rabbit

This elaborate doorway is hidden round the back of St Nicholas’ Cathedral. I never knew it existed until I’d lived here for years, and didn’t find it for a while after that. Well worth exploring to find.

And noone knows for sure why the rabbit at the top is a vampire rabbit.

  1. First time I knew of it was on a photo on Flickr. On my second visit to Newcastle, my boyfriend and I went on the hunt for it! It was good fun! Such a mistery, and such a pity we’ll never know what it means!
    Thanks for the pic!

  2. What a gorgeous building this is! I have never seen the Vampire Rabbit all my years living in Newcastle- my kids would have loved to have seen this. Is the building painted pink? Either way…just fabulous….one of life’s little mysteries.

  3. We have had a fair few discussions about the origin of the “Vampire Rabbit” on our SkyskraperCity Newcastle Forum, so far, without total success!!
