Are they rentals or bicycles that one can borrow and return?? I love the rainy day reflections…
Hire costs differ according to how long you sign up to the scheme. Casual membership is 1p for six months plus £1.50 per two hour rental of the bike. A week membership costs £5 for the week and then 20p per two hour rental of the bike. A one year membership cost £25 with rental again costing 20p per two hour rental of the bike.
It seems like a brilliant idea but the ScratchBikes name is a bit odd, I would have thought that was the last thing they would want you to do.
To hire a bike, a user has to send a text with the ScractchBikes bike number to ScratchBikes HQ. They will then get a return text message with an unlocking code for a combination lock that locks the bike to a Sheffield stand. Users can rent the bicycle for two hours before returning it to one of the racks or re-booking it.

Great pic and seemingly a great idea! I’ve yet to see one being ridden yet. Maybe I’ll give it a go myself soon – just so I can say I have!
