I love the spectators almost as much as the runners
You can find a few short videos that I took of the runners on my youtube channel – including ‘oggy oggy oggy, oi oi oi!’ in one of the Central Motorway’s tunnels
flickr also updated!

Racers start to pour down the Central Motorway. I’ve never actually watched it from one of the bridges before… it was a great vantage point, even though I didn’t get there early enough to get one of the best spots. My little man had a rather disturbed night so I kind of slept through my alarm :/

I do love the Red Arrows, but it was so, so sad to see them fly towards the Tyne Bridge in the Missing Man formation. To see the gap where Flt Lt Jon Egging should have been. I may have confessed to twitter that I shed a tear watching them fly past. Thinking of them without their colleague; thinking of his widow without her husband.
More pics (of both the runners and the Red Arrows) will be on flickr soon (and clicky here for one on facebook too…. and if you’re lucky maybe a vid or two on youtube!
It’s four years since I did the Great North Run. I think next year might be time to do it again

This shop does look great (it’s just down Grainger Street from Monument, next door to Lush I think) but… an entire shop selling cakes? (And cookies and brownies I suppose!) I hope it does well but surely the cost of being located there must be horrendous? If you’re doing well out there, then I’m really impressed
(Especially as I just discovered yesterday that Bagel of the North is no more
)
You can follow them on twitter here.
Edited to add that Catherine from Cake wrote in the comments here – thanks Catherine!

Newcastle is one of the cities in the UK with more than one cathedral. (I tried to get an exact count here but gave up – it’s not as simple a question as it sounds!) St Mary‘s RC cathedral is the one featured here, and St Nicholas is the other, as featured previously.
(It’s all stormy skies recently. But that’s nearly all we’ve had in bloody ages!)

Anyone been to Barn Asia? I haven’t, but this review makes me think I should!
Love this little vehicle – although I’m not sure what it really is….!

I actually took this to show the new signs that are taking over the city centre – don’t they look less attractive than the old ones?) but discovered when looking for the details of Ever Changing, as featured yesterday, that the guy behind is also public art! This one is called Heralds* and there is another guy at the top of Northumberland Street.
Apparently, the figures are designed to ‘greet and welcome people into the street’. Do you feel greeted and/or welcomed by them?!
* LOVE how the Boer war memorial as featured here on Saturday fits nicely under the statue in the picture on the council website!
This silver column is a piece of public art in Grainger Town, by Eilis O’Connell. Behind it you can catch a glimpse of the city walls, and of the Citygate complex on Gallowgate and St James Boulevard.
“The title ‘Ever Changing’ reflects the continual change in the surrounding environment, which is caught on the surface of the sculpture. The architecture, changing skies and the movement of traffic and people are reflected in the mirror polished external surface of the work.”
I’m often not too taken by modern art, and really disliked this at first… but it’s kind of grown on me over the years – more so after reading the above quote.
What do you think?
If you’re on twitter don’t forget to follow newcastle daily photo!

I always think this stall looks fab when I walk past. It’s at the bottom of Northumberland Street.
Note the clock in the background; its twin will be featuring in the next few days. Who remembers where it is?!
I’m thinking of doing another quiz week soon – do people like the sound of that?

I’ve posted pics of the Old Assembly Rooms before, but I like the way the railings form a bottom border.
As you may have seen if you follow me on facebook newcastle daily photo is now on twitter! Follow me there for extra snippets and pictures
This wasn’t taken today – we haven’t been into town today – but if the sky there was anything like the sky here, it could have been. It’s been crazy stormy skies today.
I’ve updated the post Monument: now with added trees? if you want to know what’s going on!
