Shiremoor

So I learned when googling for this post that Shiremoor is so called because it used to be called Tynemouthshire Moor. (Probably as well they shortened it; that’s a pretty long name.) I also had no idea about the Children’s Treat – a tradition dating back to 1907 that sounds like quite a nice event for kids. Here’s a pic from 1974.

Not the most interesting picture ever, but I always love how you don’t have to go very far from Newcastle – reputed to be all gritty and industrial – before you start hitting fields. Of course, there’s a Boundary Mill store too, but that’s not the point
