We’ll return to the Whitley Bay area tomorrow, but first, this commercial break:

If you visited the City Centre yesterday, you would have come across a big to-do in front of the Civic Center. Newcastle was visited by HRH Prince Philip, who was present at the rededication of a sculpture titled “The Response”, depicting men leaving for battle. The sculpture has recently undergone a cleaning, removing more than 80 years of dirt and grime. Before, viewers were unable to see the textures in the clothing, but now they are able to again. It was interesting to see the bustle in the days leading up to the dedication as Flowers were planted (in October!) and the grounds were spruced up.
I’m posting a second picture, one of the prince himself, because it wasn’t really a photo of Newcastle, and I didn’t think it was right to make it a seperate post. So enjoy two pics, it won’t happen very often!

It’s good to see them cleaning up the old stuff and not just paying stupid amounts of money for new art, a lot of which I think is rubbish. Could we have a photo of that memorial now it’s had a face lift. With Remembrance day not to far away it would be fitting.
Another winner
I was admiring the photo, and thinking it was a shame you didn’t get a shoot of HRH, then srolled down and …………….
Perfection!
Sure Heva, I could do that. When is rememberance day?
Thanks, Ad! It just didn’t seem right without including him!
Any chance of a photo of the venue that held “The Great Sugar Lump Fight” back in the 80’s. I am afraid I will have to ask fellow contestents and spectators for advice as to it’s location. Any clues Chris? I don’t think you were actually involved that day, but may have been included in the resulting ban!!!
what was the “The Great Sugar Lump Fight”? Ha! Sounds fun!
