You can tell that all the schools and all the students are back now. It’s taking longer to get into work than it did a few weeks ago.

These sorts of lines always seem to be longer when you’re late to work!
Know how you feel Beth. I used to travel along the A1 past the angel every morning in rush hour it was horrendous. Now I have a new job and use the metro stress free.
I bet there is only 1 person in most of the cars…and that most journeys are short.
People should walk more if they can, for all sorts of reasons, including exercise & health.
did you know todays theme was Lines?
The biggest number of people employed in the North East work on the Team Valley (just over ten thousand and growing)
What do the planners do - build the Metro out to Sunderland - Doh!
What they should do - link the Metro from Central Station to the old Railway station at Low Fell, plenty of room alongside existing track - then Chester-le-Street and Durham.
Result - work it out for yourselves - much less traffic, much less fumes, much less stress.
But then I am old and watched Beeching shut the local rail link down. I worked on the Valley and hundreds of people who worked on the Valley at that time, came by rail from both North & South of the River.
You were home in Durham in less than 15 minutes, into Gateshead and Newcastle in 5 and 10 minutes respectively. Change at Newcastle home at the coast in 20 mins - I think the old planners knew what they were doing - but then wages did not allow - ordinary workers to own cars. Nuff said from an old grump.
Hope, tis true tis true…!
Chrissy, I do miss living close to the metro lines. The bus service, while good, gets stuck in queues like everyone else. The metro just whizzes past. I loved living in South Gosforth and just getting the metro in each day, but that’s a while ago now…
Mike, I’m probably being oversensitive here… we didn’t have a car till earlier in the year; we’d always relied on public transport. But now my hubby needs one for work, so we have to suck it up. It’s a lot more expensive, but unavoidable.
Ineke, I knew, but I was too late to join the theme day. I kinda liked posting a line of traffic anyway though!
Mrs K, you are entirely right and if you were in charge Newcastle would be a much better place, I reckon!
LOL. your photo sums up my morning. I spent a big chunk of it in a traffic jam on the way to Ikea in Leeds. Boy was I ready for my Swedish meatballs by the time I got there :-D
