Voted by Radio Four listeners a few years back as the most beautiful street in Europe.
Not quite sure what happened to Cassandra yesterday - hopefully she’s OK and she might go back and add a picture - we’ll see!

about Grey Street ... posted by Beth
The nicest curve in UK. Do you know that was voted ‘Best street in the UK’ by BBC Radio 4 listeners in 2002? Its nice from the begining to the end. I had a lot of fun over there.
It was great to discover this page but at the same time I feel sad because I´m far away from Newcastle. Those pictures make me sad..
sorry beth I didnt read your comment before I wrote mine….;)
I work just down Dean Street and I love walking down this way in the mornings - not coming back home in the evening obviously, as it’s as steep as it looks on the photo!
Another great photo Beth :)
Heh Davidhg that made me chuckle. It really is a great street. Newcastle is a great city, but as long as you’re happy where you are, then that’s OK too. If you’re not - then do something about it.
As long as you are happy though, just make plans to visit sometime :)
Sue, no, walking back up from Dean Street or the Quayside = NOT so much fun!
This is one of my favorite streets.
Hope you like the photo too Kelly. I like how the Tyne Bridge is hiding :)
I agree that Grey Street is a very beautiful street. I walk down Grey Steet everyday on the way to work and the beauty of the street never ceases to amaze. I do however find the street to be extremely slippy especially when it’s wet and Dean Steet is even worse for that. I have fallen over many times and once even severely damaged my elbow. Beautiful street but both streets are very dangerous.
I have some lovely photos of Grey Street and Dean Street that I will post as well. I agree with the previous comment from Craig regarding how slippy Dean Street is, I have slipped over many of times with my camera. I really wish the council either grit the street like they do with Grey Street or change the paving stones and also even them out a little. I’m sure other people will agree with that as well.
I will third that. Even when it’s just wet it’s slippy - I can’t imagine trying to walk up or down in ice or snow!
