I’m having a rather hectic day. I think this is the Church of John the Baptist. Can someone confirm for me please? It’s the church on the corner of Grainger Street and Westgate Road.
It always looks strange to me. Too old for its surroundings in the centre of Newcastle.
A little of Newcastle Central Station can be seen to the very right of the photo.

I don’t know what it’s called either, but I have video of the bells!
I think it is St. John the Baptist church. It’s certainly St. John something!
It is St John the Baptist and it’s really nice inside. an oasis! http://stjohnthebaptistnewcastle.com/
Thanks Andrew. and thanks for the link!
Too old for its surroundings? Hmm. To the left of that pic are several buildings of the late 1800s (including the Yates’ building), visible in the background is Central Station of 1850, just around the corner from it (behind it if you walk through the churchyard) are several old buildings - now all pubs, opposite the Lit and Phil building of 1822, and behind the camera view just up the road are some similarly old buildings on Westgate Road, including the Old Assembly Rooms of 1776.
I’d say the only thing that doesn’t fit the surroundings is that awful building opposite which houses the Long Bar and some recruitment company or such :-/ Get it knocked down! LOL. Gorgeous part of town otherwise, architecturally anyway.
It’s a twelfth century church! A good few centuries older than everything around. I’m sticking with it seeming far too old for its surroundings. I do entirely agree with that building behind needing knocked down though; the only problem with Westgate House going was that it throws focus onto that one as the worst building near Central :/
