November 26, 2008 - Wayback Wednesday: Dutch Poffertjes (Pancakes!)

Dutch Poffertjes, newcastle, uk

The international marketplace is one of my favourite things during the holiday season! And i’ll get to be there to see it! Originally posted on 4 December, 2007, This guy was flipping these tiny pancake things with that stick really really fast and he had oogles of people crowded around to watch. I didn’t try them, but they sure smelled delish!

Continental Market will return to Newcastle in 2008
Monday 24 November - Saturday 6 December 2008
Since 2002 we have also hosted a truly Continental Christmas Market with stalls from Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Spain turning the Monument area into a cosmopolitan market place with stalls packed full of unusual Christmas gifts and festive foods to be enjoyed including delicious marzipan stollen, Dutch cheeses, plants and bulbs, Belgian chocolates and German sausages.

Winter Christmas Market
Wednesday 10 December - Sunday 14 December 2008
With the famous City Centre backdrop (Grey’s Monument, Grainger Street, Grey Street and Old Eldon Square) there are over 50 stalls showcasing many local traders with a wide variety of original hand crafted gifts, and tasty treats. Traders sell everything from alpaca hats and gloves to boozy Christmas cake, cheeses, delicious jams, beautiful glassware and gorgeous jewellery.

And in other news, i’m on my way to the UK today! I’ll be in Newcastle starting on 1 December. Anyone for meeting up? I’ve got plans to meet at the Hancock at 1p with friends and all y’all are invited too! Ice skating at the Center for Life later?

November 25, 2008 - Central Station - outside looking in

Central station, newcastle, Uk

Taken from the very end of platform 4, looking back into the station, roughly west, on a busy Friday night.

November 24, 2008 - Grainger Market Weighhouse

weighhouse, newcastle, uk

I’ve written about the Weigh House before on my blog.  The Weigh House was originally used for retailers and customers to check the weight of their goods, but now it’s just used for people to weigh themselves.  Apparently the charge has recently gone up to 20p - what a trauma!!!

November 23, 2008 - Theatre Royal - by night

Theatre Royal, Newcastle, UK

A completely different shot to the last one I posted, and rather different colours to the shots of the last few days.

Information about the theatre here.
