In honour of Woolworth’s final day of trading.
I wonder what the fate of this retail park in Newcastle (Byker, to be precise) will be now that Woolworths, one of the biggest shops on it, has closed.

I took these photos on Saturday after this store’s final day of trading, Friday 2nd Jan. The trolley’s line ‘let’s have some fun’ seemed so poignant that I had to take a record of it.
After taking these pictures I went to Wallsend, which was still open. I went in, but even though there were still some items left, it felt too sad to buy anything.
And on a brighter note: Please click through to the BBC for a gallery of my favourite images from the site for 2008.

RIP Woolies!
So sad, it was a terrible shock. But I fear more will come. Let’s hope this credit crunch won’t last until 2011 as forecast …Ciao. Antonella
PS Wow, you’re on the BBC website, Beth! How grand! Absolutely love the shots you’ve chosen. My favourite is the Whitley Bay one. I love the “desolate” look of the beach…Well done. A.
Hi Vintage Kitten, good to see you again.
Yes Antonella, I’m hearing rumours of the shops you would think safe going under too. It’s scary. And I’m glad you like the shots on the BBC Tyne website - it was unbelieveably hard to choose!
