This looks like its going to be a great library. I won’t be back in Newcastle until August, and a visit here is definitely on my list of things to do. Definitely looks a lot better than the building it has replaced !
I’ve got to say. Wow! I’m usually not that much into modern architecture (except from a photographic point of view), but this looks like one cool building. Especially if you compare it to the old library. This could really grade up that quarter of town, right?
PJF - at least it’ll be open by then! The old building really was horrible.
Daniel - yep. Only bit of the building I’m not convinced by is the bit on the left. The hubby and I both think it looks like a car park. They’ve really done up the square behind the library as well, look much nicer now.
Sue - it’s amazing what a difference it makes isn’t it? Have you seen Princess Square recently? And yes, new books…. mmmmmm…. ;o)
:ast year I started hot-desking in cafs around Newcastle (space to study with stack of books for a couple of quid, tea thrown in). For a freelancer it’s great, because the one thing you miss from work is the buzz of people.
Can’t wait to try out that cafe Mike!
Steve, sometimes I go to Starbucks and write. As money saving Martin says, even a £3 coffee is damned cheap when it comes with free office rental space! The library will be even better i’m sure.

I agree with PJF and Daniel - when you think what the old library looked liked before…. and Princess Square.
Can’t wait to run amok amongst all those new books :)
I can’t wait also!
There will also be a super nice Stewart & Co. of Jesmond, cafe inside too!

I’m so jealous. Hug a book or two or three for me!
