These pictures were taken when I was down on my trip to the Swing Bridge Motor Room for the Tyne and Wear Heritage Open Days. I’ve really enjoyed it this year - but I’ve not managed to do as much as last year, which is a shame. Ah well - two things still to go tomorrow (the Jesmond Cemetary and Catacombs walk, and the Victoria Tunnel - the two things I’m most excited about!) and already I’m looking forward to next year!
There are two of these lampposts on each side of the road at the Newcastle side of the bridge - I presume they are also on the Gateshead side but didn’t check! You can also see the Castle Keep to one side.
For more information you can check out this website or the Port of Tyne’s information here. Both pages well worth clicking through to.

Superb and I’m very envious - I’d love to that tour so am hoping they’ll do it again next year! Sounds like you’ve going to see some great things.
That lamppost is great.
I was down there on THU with colleagues from work. The engineering was beautiful to look at. I think it was the victorian green and copper coloured machinery which I remember most. I did like it when the bloke sounded the bridge horn! Its been quite a good heritage day weekend - I did 8 events! The unexpeced gem was Trinity House (easily beats Alderman Fenwick’s & Bessie Surtees houses, and the Bruce Building).
Mike
Dave - it seems to be a popular tour, so I’m sure it’ll be back next time! Glad you like the lamppost too.
Mike - we didn’t get to hear the bridge horn! I’m jealous! And Trinity House beats the Bruce building?!? Now THAT surprises me. I’ll have to try that one next year.
Two great pictures yet again. Though I must admit the lamppost had to grow one me. The swing bridge detail was an instant WOW.
Glad you like the swing bridge pic - it’s an amazing bridge and always nice against a sunny sky!
