St Peter’s Marina is hidden away near St Anthony’s. I had no idea it was there - it’s strange how I didn’t have any concept of the river between Newcastle and the coast, even though I know the shape it follows.

Get yourself to Hebburn Riverside then ;)
I was waiting for a Metro at Pelaw the other night, and a slightly drunk guy said that Hebburn was ‘God’s Country’ but that is perhaps going a bit too far!
Good shot. This website is life affirming.
An excellent picture, Beth, showing what a good job they have made of the marina, it’s beautiful. When I was a kid virtually the whole river bank was covered with factories and shipyards from Newcastle almost to North Shields. Now we have houses, marinas and riverside parks. It’s a vast improvement but I can’t help being sad at the loss of all that industry.
One (and only) time I saw that place, I was walking back from Monaco…
comment re the industry Alf - SPOT ON
Lived for a few months in St Peters but found it very isolated;it was handy for the Free Trade pub though.
One of the places I’ve heard about, but never been to before!
That yellow round house looks interesting!
How come you ended up down there, B?
Mike
Dave - will do, and thank you!
Thanks Alf. Yes it is a terrible shame to lose the industry. The north east lost its way for a while after that, but it’s doing well again now - although there are still places that are lost. I still hope the government will do something to help - although this is probably a triumph of hope over experience :(
Mosh you are scary :)
Dave, yes.
Hectoria, I can believe that. I had no idea it was there at all.
Mike - my hubby discovered it one day and thought I’d like to see it :)
