So when I took this picture, I was mixed up and thought it was Trinity House. But it blatantly isn’t, as, err, I’ve featured Trinity House before and it looks quite different. So does anyone know what this building is? Google hasn’t helped for once.
If I’d realised I didn’t know what it was, I would’ve crossed the road to check….

I am pretty sure it is the old Customs House but as you say Google isn’t much help. I have no idea what it is used for now. I passed it twice a day for I don’t know how many years and it is quite a striking building. I notice there is a blue plaque on the wall and I would love to know whose name is on it.
where is it? i don’t recognise it.
This is (was) - The Custom House - located on Newcastle Quayside, built in 1766 to replace Custom House at the West end of the Quayside. Originally home to the crown customs officers who were responsible for collecting the King’s taxes from foreign ships docked on the Quayside. The building is currently home to Trinity Chambers (trinitychambers.co.uk), a set of Barristers’ chambers.
Not to be confused with South Shields Customs House (http://www.customshouse.co.uk/).

It is on the Quayside opposite to the Sage. I should have paid more attention when I was passing, the blue plaque says Customs House and gives some details about the building. I also discovered that it is now used as a barristers’ chambers.
Alf’s right, it is the old Customs House and is now home to the barristers of Trinity Chambers. Beautiful building - has anyone been inside?
Thank you so much Alf and Sue!
CGP, I meant to say it was on the Quayside but totally forgot! Sorry.
