Wet ‘N’ Wild is an indoor waterpark in the Royal Quays. Part of the lazy river actually goes outside, which is pretty crazy considering the climate in Newcastle,
that’s not the metro ferry sign :) that’s the sign to the ferry port where you can get the ferry to Amsterdam! http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ I’ve always wanted to do it but my husband really REALLY doesn’t like water and i’ve never found any other friends who are up for it.
The ferry sign is a blue F in the same style as the metro’s yellow M - see here. it’s just a foot ferry - doesn’t take cars or lorries as the DFDS ferry does.
A few swimming pools (Whitley Bay, Prudhoe) used to be more fun than others in that they had slides. Wet ‘n’ Wild recognised this, did away with the pool entirely and just had loads of slides. I was a bit too old to enjoy it to its full. Really it should have been called “Wet and Wild, Man!”
As with all things Tyne, none of the things in the brown box on the road sign seem to make up for the loss of bustling port activity. However the row of Italian seafood restaurants on the quay in North Shields are cheap and excellent!
I remember, when ferries also sailed to Hamburg, dropping my sister off at the ferry terminal who was going on a German exchange trip, then waving from the end of Tynemouth Pier as it sailed into the North Sea.
i used to go to wet n wild when i was young - it was about £3 for a ’stay as long as you want’ ticket so we’d get there for opening time, about 10am iirc, and stay until they closed :)
Naomi, that is a bit silly to go outside, isn’t it? I guess that’s were the ‘wild’ bit comes in, eh?
Beth, duh, I feel quite silly now. :P Oh well. At least one of us knows what I photographed! When I come back again, i’ll take a sea trip with you! I haven’t been to Amsterdam yet.
Danny, how awesome that you got to wave goodbye twice! That must be awesome to see them in the North Sea from the end of the Tynemouth Pier. What a memory!
That’s the way to do it, CGP–get your moneys worth!
yay to amsterdam :)
