A magnificent, Gothic cathedral! Wonderful details - I wonder what it looks like inside…
Great shot of it sneaking into view. It was a regular parish church before becoming a cathedral, hence it’s relatively plain apprearance. Although it does have some great pieces inside.
Some great green twiddly bits yesterday - proper name=verdigris (but you knew that!)
By the way - see my photos from the top (and inside) of that great old ‘Salt Cellar’ mentioned the other day. My shots are on Youtube - channel name = tynetube.
But don’t laugh - I’m new to Youtube!
a lovely & unusual shot full of atmosphere
This was always one of my favourite parts of the city. It had a real olde worlde feel to it. Nice pic.
Beth, what a wonderful shot. I can almost feel the hustle and bustle of the Bigg Market and the Groat Market and then the eye is drawn to the tranquil church at the bottom. Incidentally it is worth going in to the church just to see the font, it is magnificent.
It is wonderful inside and if you get hold of one of the guides, the stories are fascinating.
The lantern tower, is the only one in England, t’other one is in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The sadness I feel when looking at this picture is on the left hand side, where the Chronicle offices are, there was a lovely Town Hall building before the pulled it down. And the concrete monstrosity rearing above on th rhside. Progress, in this case, I think not.
Leif - it’s nice inside - very nice inside! - but the views from the top are even better :)
Thanks Dave - glad you like! You’re too modest about your youtube exploits :) - the vids are here if anyone wants to see! I loved seeing the pics from the top of Monument especially.
Thanks Hectoria!
Glad you like it Bob B.
THanks Alf, I’m glad you like it!
For anyone who wants to see what Mrs K is talking about you can check out this post on oldcastle newcastle for an old shot that includes the old Town Hall, back before the Civic Centre was built. I do like the Civic but it’s such a shame we can’t have both.
For more discussion and pics of the Old Town Hall, go here.
Thanks a lot for that Beth! I’ll try and get some more content on there…
