Sorry for going AWOL for a few days. I didn’t mean to. Just really busy and couldn’t find the time or energy to post. The Hoppings was partly to blame (took up the whole of my Thursday night, interrupting my flow!), so it’s only fair to post this pic. More hopefully to follow.

Don’t keep apologising we all know what life is like and it is quite a chore to commit yourself to a post every day. Just relax we will still be waiting for your contribution. I like the big wheel and I can almost smell the chips and candy floss. Now there’s a combination. I hope you enjoyed your night at the Hoppings. It must have been one of the driest Hoppings ever.
I didn’t make it to the Hoppings when I was there. I’m a little iffy about fairs in general, but this is a fab photo!
I always headed for the wheel and I loved it when they got bigger. Second was Helter Skelter, then Dodgems. That was the lot. And it always rained.
Alf is right; don’t worry yourself.
Great shot and we all love the wheel; as has been said, all Tynesiders know that the Hoppings normally means torrential downpours, so we were lucky this time!
The Ferris Wheel…..not my favorite~ too scared of heights…wish I wasn’t…the view must be amazing from the top. Did you take a ride? Love gazing at it though.

this year pics not great as i had a five year old child with me and was convinced if i took my attention off her she’d manage to fall out!!! bonus points for anyone who can find last year’s and link here….
Do you mean these?… http://newcastleupontynedailyphoto.com/index.php/2009/06/27/two-picture-saturday-the-hoppings/
Funnily enough Dave no, I meant these! http://newcastleupontynedailyphoto.com/index.php/2009/06/28/two-picture-sunday-the-hoppings-2/ - the view from the top of the wheel :) but i didn’t make that very clear so you can still have the bonus points! Not sure what you can do with them yet ;)
Yes they are good shots from the top of the wheel. I remember (as will many) being on the top of the wheel, waiting for other riders to dis/embark, with the rain pouring down… happy days!
Cheers for the bonus points; I’ll keep a tally and claim a prize soon ;)
Just want to tell you to keep up the good work. Just sorry there wasn’t someone like you around when I was a child. A lot of fabulous buildings and things don’t exist in the modern Newcastle. This Photo of the Hoppings really struck home, because I don’t know if anyone remembers but my Mother used to have a pitch…………. selling rock and coconuts at the main gate. I remember standing under the pouring rain trying to sell something to get some money to go on the dive bomber. I’ve been in Mexico for forty years now, but I can tell you I have Newcastle and the people deep in my heart. Thank you for your wonderful work.
