I’d been past this chapel quite a few times before I managed to turn my head at the right time and see it. I’d always managed to be looking in the wrong direction.

The chapel is in Jesmond Dene and was built in the twelfth century. It’s in ruins now, mostly, but there are people who go there and care for it still. Some even worship in its grounds.
Tyne and Wear County Council, who put up this sign, was abolished in 1986, just three years after putting up this sign.
Two more pics tomorrow.

I guess it shows how things chage - politically as well as naturally!
This reminds me that I haven’t visited Jesmond Dene for a long time, I must make the effort, it’s a wonderful place. As for Tyne and Wear, I never accepted it and as far I am concerned I still live in County Durham.
Nice looking photography. Your blog layout and colors are helpful too.
thank you all! i’ve never been into Jesmond Dene properly in a long time Alf, I’ll have to go too.
